And in that moment, I felt seen—truly seen. As if he had touched the tender places where my sorrow hides. This man, who had borne witness to humanity’s darkest corners; this man who has seen the deepest wounds of the world—he embraced me.

With two simple words, he reached into the heavy silence I carry, and changed me forever. “It’s enough,” he said, as if somehow he saw into my heart, where my greatest sorrow lies. The sorrow of feeling that no matter how much we give, no matter how hard we work, the depths and magnitude of suffering is still so great.

And in that embrace, he offered me the permission to lay down the weight of it all.

“Crystal, I Promise You, It’s enough.”

And in that moment… I believed him.

Embracing Change: A Personal Update & Our Path Forward 🍂

As summer slips into autumn, the changing seasons reflect the journey we’ve been on at U Grow Girl. Today, I want to share something personal that has reshaped my life and our mission here.

7 months ago, I was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma. The news was a shock, and the unknowns of what treatment would bring were overwhelming. The first round of chemotherapy was nothing short of brutal. I experienced every side effect imaginable, spent days sleeping, and even found myself in the ER. There were moments when I wondered how I would endure the months ahead.

But resilience has a way of rising, even in the darkest times. My treatment was adjusted, and by the second round, I started to feel the first rays of hope. A follow-up PET scan revealed a complete response to treatment—no visible cancer. The relief was overwhelming, the kind that makes you breathe deeply and believe in the impossible. My journey is far from over but I go forward with hope.

It’s a surreal experience to hold the title of both CSA survivor and now cancer survivor, I’ve found an unexpected gift: clarity. Cancer, in its harshness, became a course correction, a call to realign and refocus on what truly matters.

In the face of this diagnosis, we realized it was time for U Grow Girl to evolve too. From the beginning, our social enterprise model has allowed us donate $70,000+ to support fellow survivors. But as our wait list grows, we’ve learned that this model limits our access to much-needed funding; most grants are only open to charities.

So, just as I am healing, U Grow Girl is transitioning. We are excited to announce we are officially a non-profit. This change will open doors to new opportunities, allow us to amplify our impact, and continue creating safe spaces for healing.

Life’s traumas can bring us to our knees, yet they also have the power to transform us, to make us braver, and more aligned with our purpose. Thank you for being part of this journey with me, for supporting U Grow Girl, and for believing in our mission.
